These inservices are used at the beginning of the school
year for teachers and school personnel who are working with
a child with a hearing loss. You may wish to add or remove
items as necessary for the particular student you are working
with. Under ‘Experience a Hearing Loss Firsthand,’ we give
an “unfair spelling test” which is available in a booklet
called Sound Hearing Or…Hearing What You Miss by S. Harold
Collins. This booklet comes with a CD which provides many
audio examples of how one hears with different degrees of
hearing loss. This resource is available through Soundbytes
at www.soundbytes.com. We have found this to be a wonderful
tool that we not only use for inservices, but for lectures
and workshops as well!
