Content Standards

  • Have knowledge of the state curriculum standards

Accountability

  • IEP should improve academic achievement and functional performance
  • Evaluate communication within the context of the curriculum standards (i.e. connecting language skills and performance to curriculum standards
  • Track performance of students with disabilities on state and district wide assessments, including alternative assessments
  • Provide interventions within the context of the content standards
  • Monitor assessments to prevent disproportionate representation by race or ethnicity of students in special education
  • Promote student learning and literacy as a routine part of the role of a SLP in the schools

Services

  • Determine eligibility within 60 days of referral/suspect a disability

 

  • Provided services and intervention that are evidence based

 

  • Increase the focus on early childhood services. Children on IFSP plans identified and placed by 3rd birthday

 

Parental involvement

  • Provide greater opportunities for parents involvement in IEP meetings by using teleconferencing, video conferencing and other alternative means

 

  • Provide reports to parents on progress on IEP goals on same schedule as peers

 

Earlier access to services

  • More involvement with child not on IEPS with use of up to 15% of IDEA funds for development of early intervention supports for children without disabilities

 

  • Be involved in Response to Intervention at multiple levels

 

  • Able to make minor changes in IEP without reconvening entire team-parent agreement needed

 

  • Able to provide a process for team to agree to attend meeting without all members present

 

  • As case manager give a copy of procedural safeguards at least once a year and other times according to procedures
