GRADUATE PROGRAM SUMMARY

OMNIE (Ohio Master's Network, Initiatives in Education-Speech- Language Pathology) began in September 1998 and is a consortium of twelve Ohio universities collaborating with the Ohio Speech-Language Hearing Association, OSSPEAC, and the Ohio Department of Education.

The OMNIE Project supports the Ohio Department of Education's goals of education, recruitment, and retention of school based SLP by supporting the SLP Advisory Group's 2006 recommendations to the State Board of Education. Successful completion of these recommendations provides Ohio schools with immediate and long-term solutions to staff Ohio's school SLP positions and decrease the shortages of SLP personnel.

The Collaborative Distance Learning Graduate Program in speech/language pathology was re-instated in 2006. Web-based learning offers individuals from remote areas of the state, as well as the students who need to maintain full-time employment, the opportunity to complete educational and practicum requirements leading to the graduate degree in speech-language pathology. This program has targeted the non-traditional student. It has attracted individuals from areas of the state where no graduate program exists, thus this program addresses the critical personnel needs in rural areas. Individuals from urban areas are also attracted to this program as they may continue employment and family demands. Students are matriculated through two 'home' universities- University of Akron and University of Cincinnati. During the three-year program, courses are delivered by several additional ASHA accredited Ohio universities.
