REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION TO
OHIO'S NEW SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY GRADUATE DEGREE PROGAM MODELS
INTERNSHIP MASTER'S DEGREE PROGRAM
OR COLLABORATIVE DISTANCE LEARNING
MASTER'S DEGREE
Admission into these ASHA accredited graduate programs in
speech-language pathology will be on a competitive basis. Applicants must satisfy the university's
graduate school admission requirements. Decisions will be based on the
following:
- Minimum GRE score of 450 (Verbal and Quantitative) and a minimum score of 4.5 (Written/analytical). Lower GRE scores may be considered with the submission of a strong application package.
- Typed 1-2 page narrative goals statement/essay regarding your academic and professional objectives related to a career in speech-language pathology. Please provide some insight regarding your understanding of the field of speech pathology and what attracted you to this profession. The following are topics that you might include:
a. Tell us something about yourself that is not reflected in other aspects of your application.
b. Tell us why you have selected this profession.
c. Talk about an experience or experiences that have influenced your thinking about this profession.
- Resume showing previous work experience, activities, scholarships and honors
- A 3.0 minimum overall undergraduate grade point average.
- One original and one final transcript is required from each university attended.
- Three letters of recommendation relative to prospective students academic promise at graduate level.
Applicants must:
- Must have a Bachelor's degree in Communication Disorders or similar program.

- Will need to complete the
university's prerequisite 'leveling' courses prior to admittance to the program.
Successful completion of prerequisite courses does not guarantee admission.
Prerequisite courses for the INTERNSHIP GRADUATE PROGRAM
will be available either on-campus or through distance learning and are determined by the specific university..
All applicants must complete an undergraduate course in each of the following areas: biological science, physical science,math, social science.
These are often included in the undergraduate curriculum, and may be available on-line or at local community colleges.
All applicants accepted into the graduate program in speech-language pathology must:
- Be able to meet practica requirements (400 hours) at several clinical sites.
- Must verify intent to seek and accept full time school-based employment in OHIO public schools following program completion.
